Counsellors

Hello, I’m Becky. I am a person-centred counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). With experience supporting people through life’s challenges, I offer a safe, caring space where you can feel truly heard and understood.

Counselling is a journey, and ongoing sessions provide a space for reflection, growth and healing. I will be there to support you as we work through challenges, celebrate progress and adapt to suit your evolving needs. It’s a collaborative process focussed on your well-being and personal development.

Whether you would prefer to meet in person or online, I provide a welcoming space where you can talk openly and without judgement. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable, supported and free to explore what matters most to you.

I am a fully qualified art psychotherapist with a lifelong passion for art and its ability to help us explore and process emotions. Through image-making, we invite a ‘third presence’ into the therapeutic space—an external expression of the internal world—offering a bridge to feelings that can be difficult to voice. I work extensively with individuals in palliative care, those with terminal diagnoses, and families pre- and post-bereavement. I also support adults, children, and families affected by cancer, and can offer support in a variety of areas including anxiety and long-term illness. My role is to be present, curious, and steady as I walk alongside others through their unique and often complex journeys.

I specialise in working with victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. I also have experience in working with many trauma cases outside these issues, including people who have been victims of a crime. I’ve worked in pre-trial therapy and understand how to work in tandem with a potential or current legal case.

I also take clients who have been involved in coercive control groups such as cults or other high-pressure groups. This includes those who have been involved in extreme religious practices.

Other mental health issues I work with include depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, family issues and many other issues that fall under the mental health umbrella.

I welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as those with neurodiversity. I accept clients aged 16 and above and have experience with this age group from working in a school.

Availability:

I offer a free 20-minute phone or online consultation. I will ask you a little about what brought you to counselling to make sure I’m a suitable choice and have the availability you need. This is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for me and see if this could be a beneficial partnership.

I currently offer online sessions for £50. I have some flexibility for daytime appointments. I have dedicated Mondays for any evening online appointments. These tend to fill up quickly.

Face-to-face sessions are £65. I work evenings on Wednesdays. I have limited availability for these sessions at the moment.

About Me:

I believe that everyone could benefit from counselling at some point. We all get stuck from time to time, and having someone who has no preconceived ideas about you and offers a truly non-judgemental place to sort through your thoughts and feelings can be life-changing. As an American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I

have witnessed attitudes of seeking counselling change for the better. There seems to be less stigma around mental health in general, and it’s exciting to be a part of this.

I am an integrative counsellor who uses different methods and modalities based on the needs of the individual client. Everything I bring into sessions is underpinned by the Person-Centred approach, where the relationship between counsellor and client is of the utmost importance. This therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects. I believe the client to be the expert in their own life, and I work with the client to find tools that work for them.

My personal experience in counselling rooms as a client has probably been the most important part of my training. I believe in this process wholeheartedly. I know it can be difficult but also life-changing. I am secure in my work with clients in that I never ask them to do anything I have not done myself. I understand the weight of it and the privilege it is to be invited on your journey.

“Life threw some difficult challenges at me in my younger years and I struggled for a long while with my mental health and with some traumatic events that had a massive impact on me. It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I went to see a Counsellor and was amazed at the difference it made. It was at this point I thought I’d like to be a Therapist.

Before becoming a Counsellor, I did lots of different jobs including working in Human Resources, Customer Services and also worked at a bank. Most recently I worked in a school, initially to do an Admin role, but it soon turned into a Pastoral Role as I naturally had the ability to get teenagers to talk to me about their issues. While I was still at the school, I began my Counselling Training and then in 2017 I qualified as a Counsellor.

I’m Mum to 2 children (aged 17 & 10) and live with my partner in Ampthill, along with our crazy French Bulldog, Frank. Before COVID-19 I used to work from a Therapy Room at home, but I have not yet returned to seeing clients at home and now work a lot via Zoom video as well as working as School Counsellor at Middle and Upper Schools.”

I am a Person-centred counsellor, who believes that each of us has the capacity to grow, heal, and live more fully when we’re given the right support. My aim is to offer a calm, compassionate and welcoming space where you can explore whatever feels important to you, at your own pace and without judgement.

At the heart of my work are the values of empathy, acceptance, and authenticity. I aim to understand your world as you experience it, to accept you for who you are, and to be genuine in our relationship. I believe that when these conditions are present, real change and self-discovery can take place. I see counselling as a collaborative journey. Rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, I will walk alongside you, supporting you to connect with your own feelings, strengths, and inner wisdom.

Together, we can make sense of the challenges you face and find ways forward that feel right for you. I work with people from all walks of life and with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, loss, relationship struggles, and periods of change. Whatever brings you here, I will meet you with warmth, respect, and care so that you can feel more at ease with yourself, more confident in your choices and more hopeful  to live in a way that feels true to you.

Hi, I’m Lesley. How are you……… really?

It’s a question we get asked all the time, but how often do we feel like we can answer honestly? Maybe you’re used to saying “I’m fine” even when you’re not. Maybe it feels easier to stay quiet than try to explain feelings you’re not even sure how to name. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you’re in the right place.

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of talking therapy that gently explores how your past experiences and relationships may be shaping your thoughts, feelings, and patterns in the present. It’s not about blaming the past, but understanding how it might still be affecting you today.

In our first session, the focus is completely on you, your story, how you’re feeling right now, and what you hope to get out of therapy. This is a space where you can bring whatever you need, at your own pace.

One way I like to explain the therapeutic process is through the idea of an “unseen backpack” we all carry. Over the course of our lives, this backpack fills with experiences some joyful, some painful, some unresolved. Sometimes, without us even realizing, it becomes heavy. When life gets tough or something unexpected happens, that backpack can feel like it’s overflowing leading to anxiety, overwhelm, or tension in our relationships.

My role as your therapist is to help you carry that weight for a while. Together, we’ll look at what might be inside, gently, without judgment and begin to understand how it’s affecting you in the here and now. Often, we discover that present struggles are connected to past feelings, memories, or patterns.

By making space to reflect and understand, we can begin to “re-pack” that backpack in a way that feels lighter, more manageable, and uniquely your own.

You don’t have to do this alone. Whether we meet online or in my private, quiet space in Wilstead, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, welcome, and accepted just as you are, no masks, no judgment.

I work with a wide range of problems not limited to but including:

· Abuse

· Addiction

· ADHD

· Anxiety

· Autism

· Baby loss

· Bereavement

· Dementia

· Depression

· Domestic Abuse

· Low Self Esteem

· Stress

· Trauma

If any of this resonates with you, even if you’re not sure what you need yet, I’d love to hear from you. You’ve already taken a brave step just by being here. When you’re ready, I’m here too.

Hi, I’m Jo. I am a BACP registered integrative therapist and psychotherapist. I am passionate about helping people understand their own mental health. I believe our relationship with our mind and bodies are the very core of our being and therefore why not make this the best relationship possible in order to enjoy the experience of life?

I have a particular interest in loss and grief, which I believe touches all of our lives in myriad ways, whether it’s the loss of a favourite personal belonging, a part of our identity, a relationship, or the death of a loved one. I can support you by sitting alongside as you process your painful and often complex feelings.

I am also interested in working with issues connected with our relationship with food and our body image.

Whatever your current area of mental distress may be, I am available to help you explore and find ways to understand yourself more deeply in order for you to live more comfortably. Whether the issue for you is a short or a longer path, I will walk with you. Please get in touch for an initial hello.

Qualifications:

I trained at the Minster Centre, one of the UK’s leading training institutes in integrative counselling and psychotherapy. I hold a Master’s Degree and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling. I also have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (a Level 7 BACP Accredited qualification).

What I Offer:

I work face-to-face and online via Zoom, offering both daytime and evening appointments.

Introductory call – 15 minutes, free

Weekly sessions – 50 minutes, £65

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are offered at the same agreed time each week. Carving out a regular space for therapy each week is an important part of the process.

Do you or your child struggle with feeling different, misunderstood, or exhausted from trying to navigate a world that doesn’t always make sense? Maybe social situations feel overwhelming, relationships are confusing, or self-doubt makes it hard to trust your own instincts. You might find yourself masking, people-pleasing, or shutting down completely — feeling like you have to work twice as hard just to keep up.

I work with young people and adults who are neurodivergent or have neurodivergent family members. Many of my clients feel stuck – overwhelmed by anxiety, burnout, or the pressure to “get it right.” Whether it’s difficulties with friendships, challenges at school or work, or feeling disconnected in family relationships, these struggles can take a toll on self-esteem and emotional well-being.

I offer a neuro-affirming, integrative approach to therapy that helps you or your child develop self-awareness, self-compassion, and practical strategies to move forward. This isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about understanding yourself, finding ways to meet your needs, and building confidence in your own path in life.

I know how hard it can be to reach out for help. But you don’t have to figure this out alone. If you’re ready to take the first step, I’m here to support you.

“My early training from the green age of 18 at Bart’s Hospital, London was as an adult nurse. Somehow, perhaps because of my own early life experience of a temporarily sick little brother, I couldn’t consider people as ‘the appendicitis case in bed 12’.  I became increasingly interested in how some people recovered more quickly than others with less pain and agitation and that others had hidden concerns that to our shame, we never found out about. From these early days working in acute specialist care, pain relief and symptom control to care of the dying and their family and working alongside GPs providing healthcare to young families and the older person in the community, I never lost the sense that if we have no knowledge of context nor of what matters personally, the best ‘evidence based’ interventions will not necessarily lead to recovery or improved wellbeing.

After some time, I got onto many years of experiential training for working alongside the unspoken distress of an emotional or physical disruption to intimacy. This could often follow a rushed or insensitive experience of intimate physical examinations, medical investigations and treatment, traumatic childbirth, unwanted sexual attention and near death experiences… to name but a few underlying causes.

Addressing/talking through sexual dysfunction with people allowed me to witness recovery from years of sex not working well enough, to other body problems that also, often surprisingly, started to improve. This practice based evidence got me into researching the connections between body, mind and emotion. There are such important links to appreciate as we attempt to enhance physical and emotional wellbeing in a more focused way to everyone’s satisfaction!

There are occasions when I need to write down what I feel or see in a moment (not usually work related) without my own critical judgement on it. This feels freeing and good. I might also try it with paint some-time soon!”

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and I understand that finding the right counsellor isn’t always easy. I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing. My goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel accepted, seen, and heard. Together, we will build trust and explore what makes you feel safe, regularly checking in on your journey. There’s no set limit on our sessions; we’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

As an integrative creative arts counsellor, I blend various methods, combining the arts with talking therapy. The creative process is a powerful tool for our well-being. Combining the arts with talking therapy allows us to dive deeper into our thoughts, emotions, feelings and patterns of behaviours as well as connecting our body and mind.

My experiences as an artist, teacher, and counsellor have shown me how transformative the arts can be for self-expression, overcoming challenges, and fostering connection. Navigating my own mental health challenges led me to train as a creative arts counsellor. Here I experienced firsthand the transformative value of the therapeutic relationship combined with the arts and the impact this had on my own healing.

In addition to my private practice, I co-facilitate adult groups using the arts to support physical, mental health and wellbeing. I also offer workshops. Additionally, I work with children and adolescents in their home and in alternative provisions. Working with those who have faced or still face challenging school and life experiences resulting in anxiety, depression, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), or who may have special educational needs (SEND).

Creative therapy provides a safe haven for self-expression, allowing you to share difficult thoughts and emotions. It helps release suppressed feelings, reduce stress, and foster self-awareness and is especially beneficial for processing trauma. For those who find it hard to express themselves verbally, the arts offer an additional way to explore feelings and emotions.

In my free time, I enjoy painting, walking my dogs, and being outdoors. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working overseas, living in both Europe and Asia.

Hanneke provides psychotherapeutic counselling and training. She works both face-to-face and online, with adults, teenagers (14+) and groups. She is qualified to work with a broad range of issues and offers a free initial consultation to discuss your needs.

Hanneke can provide psychotherapeutic counselling for:

· Difficult and overwhelming life events: bereavement and loss, family and relationship difficulties, pregnancy and infertility, parenthood, life transitions, illness and diagnosis, work related issues and retirement, settling and living abroad.

· Difficult thoughts and emotions: thoughts and feelings linked to anxiety, low mood, stress, burn-out and perfectionism. Or those that are harder to define; something has felt ‘off’ for some time, a general sense of dissatisfaction, confusion around your sense of self, or feeling stuck in patterns which keep repeating themselves.

Neurodiversity and SEND informed counselling can be provided for:

· Adults and teenagers whom are either diagnosed or self-identify as neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, AuDHD, Sensory Processing Differences). She also supports to those who identify with the personality trait of heightened sensitivity or HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) or SPS (Sensory Processing Sensitivity).

· Parents, carers and siblings (14+) of children with additional needs. Support can be offered as individual counselling sessions or as part of a therapeutic support group for parents and carers.

· Training for counsellors and therapists who wish to broaden their skills and understanding of working therapeutically with neurodiverse clients.

About Hanneke:

Having grown up in the Netherlands, Hanneke first visited England during her university years. Work experience as part of her degree developed into a job opportunity and she subsequently settled in the Bedfordshire area from 2004 onwards.

Hanneke’s background is in the education sector where she provided support and consultations for a diverse range of professionals, children, young people and their families, helping them to navigate difficult and emotional challenges often linked to anxiety, autistic spectrum disorders, neurodiversity, sensory processing differences and emotional wellbeing.

In her thirties, Hanneke sought counselling and hypnotherapy to work through unresolved issues from her past which had started forming barriers and limitations in her family, personal and work life. Experiencing the powerful impact of working with a professional that can provide a safe space to talk and be alongside us when we feel vulnerable and in need of support guided her towards her next vocation.

Hanneke’s approach to counselling was born out of the emphasis she places on developing a strong relationship and understanding of the unique perspective and experience of the individual. Hanneke places the client at the centre of her work and draws from different therapeutic modalities, adopting an accepting and non-judgmental stance.

Studies and research in the field of environmental sensitivity (Michael Pluess) and/or heightened sensitivity (Elaine Aron) are one of Hanneke’s passionate interests. Sensitivity is a personality trait (just like introversion and extraversion) affecting about 20% of the population and related awareness and understanding can prove to be an influential discovery towards increased wellbeing, self-care and acceptance of self.

Hi I’m Mandy,

First and foremost, I am a warm, friendly, ‘come-as-you-are’, imperfect, human being. Alongside this, I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor, which is a fancy way of saying I’m trained to support you in a variety of ways that allow me to be flexible in how we work together. This ensures  your sessions suit you individually and that you get the most out of them.

For example, some of the work we do together might include looking at how your past experiences may be unhelpfully affecting your present ones, and then supporting you to make the changes you’d like to see in your life.  Or, maybe the idea of sitting still for 50 minutes, feeling pressure to make more eye contact than you’re comfortable with is making you wonder if you can even come for Counselling?  No worries. We can easily make adjustments so that you feel comfortable to be fully present and get the most from your sessions. However we choose to work together and whatever it is  that brought you here, I will always meet you exactly where you are, with empathy, in a space where all the parts of who you are, are welcome.

As well as face to face sessions at the wonderful Happy Body Project, I also offer Walk & Talk sessions, using a number of pre-walked routes  across the local area, all chosen for their calm natural beauty, ease of use (no steep climbs!) and relative privacy. It is truly incredible how the natural environment always lends itself to these sessions so effectively, actively assisting in the journey of self-discovery and healing.

A Special Mention on Pet Loss & Bereavement:

I have a particular passion for supporting people struggling with Pet Loss or Bereavement. As a lifelong animal lover myself, I not only trained with The Blue Cross, but have long and varied lived experience of the uniquely special relationships we build with the animals we share our lives with. This inevitably also means that I understand first hand, the depth of pain and sense of loss we feel, as those relationships end. I care very deeply about providing a space where anyone experiencing this can be emotionally supported, and their grief met with the sensitivity and respect this time so deserves. For more information, please do visit the dedicated  page on my website or contact me with any questions at all.

I always feel it is a great privilege to be entrusted with some of the most delicate, vulnerable and often painful aspects of my clients’ lives and in order for a person to feel safe to do that, it is vital they find the right therapist for them. The best way to see if I might be someone you’d like to work with is to get in touch to arrange a free, no obligation online chat. That way you can ask any questions you may have, I can tell you a little more about how we might work together, and you can decide how you feel from there. I’ll hope to speak to you soon.

Hi , I’m Warren. I help people experiencing anxiety or depression or those that want to make changes to their life (at home or at work) but don’t know how to start. People I work with will often be struggling with low esteem that affects their ability to live the life they want to live and make the decisions that they want to make.

I help people with debilitating phobias or those who have suffered trauma and I support them to reach the goals they set to achieve the freedom they want.

I use REBT, CBT and EMDR as the foundation for my work. I take clients through a process that helps them to understand their emotions, the demands they are placing upon themselves and the beliefs that flow from those demands. I then to help them change how they feel by changing how they think and behave. I give them tools that will help them in the future.

I come from a place of understanding. For much of my working life I was a lawyer in London. I experienced my own mental health challenges so I know how all-consuming it can be. However, I also know how powerful therapy can be in helping to get your life back on track. I liked it so much, I gave up law and became a therapist myself!

As well as working in my own private practice, I am also an Approved Therapist with the charity Anxiety UK.

Qualifications

Hi, I’m Lorraine — a counsellor, mother, and grandmother with a deep passion for helping people feel seen, safe, and understood. Having rebuilt my life after surviving domestic abuse, I am passionate about helping others. I bring empathy, honesty, and deep respect for each person’s journey. My previous years as a hairstylist taught me the power of listening and genuine connection. My approach is warm, down-to-earth and non-judgemental. Providing a space where you can begin to heal, grow, and rediscover your strengths.

I offer a warm, person-centred approach grounded in empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard. I also provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for those seeking a structured, goal-focused approach. I support adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, grief, low self-esteem, and more. Whether you’re healing from past experiences or striving for personal growth, I believe in your capacity for change and self-discovery. My role is to walk alongside you, offering understanding and support as you move toward greater clarity and wellbeing.

Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist

My style is warm, compassionate, and inclusive. I see therapy not as a process of “fixing” you, but as a collaborative relationship where experiences can be explored openly and without judgement.

Meaningful change is most likely to happen when therapy is grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship. This sits at the heart of my approach and is something we build together over time.

My training was integrative, meaning I draw on different therapeutic perspectives to tailor therapy to your specific needs. The approach I take to our sessions will be tailored to what you hope to gain from therapy, rather than by a prescribed agenda.

I welcome adult (18+) clients from all backgrounds and identities.

How therapy with me can help

People come to therapy for many reasons and with a wide range of concerns. You might feel stuck, overwhelmed, or sense that something isn’t quite right. Sometimes there’s an internal tug-of-war, where different parts of you want different things, leaving decisions feeling confusing or exhausting.

In therapy, we can slow things down and begin to make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we can explore patterns that may be holding you back and untangle inner conflicts that feel difficult to navigate alone.

You may come to therapy feeling uncertain about who you are or how you want to live your life. This can be a reflective space to reconnect with your values and strengthen your sense of self.

Therapy with me isn’t just about reflection and exploration. It can also be a practical, supportive space where we can try different tools or ways of working that can help you make meaningful changes in your life.

About Elise:

Hello my name is Elise and I am a professional counsellor. I work with both adults and young people. I am a person-centred counsellor, which is a holistic approach. I am passionate about supporting clients to become the best version of themselves, through self-discovery in a safe and confidential space. Working to the ethical framework of BACP, I offer a non-judgmental and ethical practice.

We can all find ourselves in times of difficulties, the struggles of everyday life can get the better of us, or long-term problems can start to feel overwhelming. This can leave us feeling stressed and anxious, which could lead to other issues. Working together we can explore your feelings and find ways for you to manage challenges with greater ability. I believe that we all have our own resources to deal with obstacles, but they can be hard to draw on in times of worry, counselling can improve emotional well-being and develop resilience to life’s complexities.

I offer face to face sessions in a quiet, safe environment at the Happy Body Project. It is in a beautiful setting, with plenty of parking  and wheelchair access. There is a lovely large reception where you can spend time before the session, and after if you feel that you need some time to reflect on the session. I also offer online sessions and over the telephone.

Finding the right counsellor to work with can be a daunting task, with this in mind, I offer a free 20 minute session either online or over the phone. During this session we can discuss how we would work together, answer any questions that you may have, and talk about some of the issues that have brought you to counselling.

Introduction
Hello! My name is Charlotte. I’m 39 years old and a mother of two wonderful girls. I’d like to share a bit about my journey into Holistic Healing and how my personal struggles with trapped negative emotions have shaped my career. My hope is that my experiences and training can help you on your own healing journey.

My Journey into Holistic Healing
Throughout my adult life, I have been drawn to Holistic Healing and its various techniques. My journey began with my own challenges, including anxiety and depression, triggered by untreated post-natal depression after the birth of my first child. These experiences motivated me to explore the origins of negative feelings and how they can be addressed effectively.

I came to understand that many negative emotions stem from deep-rooted childhood experiences and, in some cases, past lives. Others arise from learned behaviours that become habitual and difficult to release. Initially, I sought help through the NHS but found limited success. This led me to explore alternative approaches, which is how I discovered Silent Counselling.

Silent Counselling
This method resonated deeply with me. Silent Counselling is a non-invasive therapy that does not require clients to relive past experiences. It can also complement other treatments and therapies. Unlike prescription medications that often mask symptoms, Silent Counselling focuses on addressing the root cause of emotional struggles.

I decided to train as a Silent Counsellor because the approach aligned with my belief that negative emotions and feelings should not control or consume our lives. Silent Counselling offers a gentle yet powerful way to release trapped emotions and regain a sense of balance.

Professional Background
Before embarking on this career, I trained to degree level in Child Psychology, which provided valuable insights into the developmental challenges many of us face. This understanding complements my healing work, as many emotional struggles stem from experiences during adolescence.

My training as a Silent Counsellor inspired me to become a Life Coach, allowing me to combine both therapies to help individuals overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, and other emotional issues.
