All About Marcus Olozulu

Hello, I’m Marcus and I’m delighted and honoured to be part of this community.

My journey has been amazing – looking back. I had to navigate abuse and trauma from an early age. Filled with anger and realising an awful trajectory in my future, I took to counselling when at University, to address anger issues. This was the start of my transformative journey. The course which changed my trajectory, enabling me to let go of hate for my father was the Landmark Education started in 2003 for two years. I believe this Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) course saved my life. I remember to this day, speaking to my dad on the phone and crying, and ‘something’ moving within my chest releasing a loud, echoey, croaking noise and me taking a breath I never knew was possible. It was as if I had never properly breathed. I gasped and felt ‘something’ leave my body. I know that what left my body was dis-ease, trauma.

It was soon after this experience, I decided to change career paths. I had a profound calling. I forgo being an Ecologist and sought to help others who were troubled and unable to change trajectories. Started at a Secure Youth Training Centre, where I achieved certification in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to help some of the most damaged young people in Britain at the time, and support them in their rehabilitation.

Then moved on to supported housing where I continue to manage homes for people with learning disabilities and mental health. I trained as a life coach through Fields of Learning and continue to support the organisation I work for, coaching colleagues in the business who wish to unlock their potential. I have been doing this for over eight years now and I’m always honoured when people open up to me with a willingness to discard of old limiting beliefs and shine instead.

I make this practice of coaching my own by tapping into the spiritual realm. I trust the universe when present to each client and allow for divinity to flow through. This ensures the right questions and prompts and techniques, only available through intent listening and a true connection to the human being in front of me.

Some of the key techniques used are:

· Building deep rapport. This is always the first. Listening to understand rather than respond is paramount to building rapport and trust. This is achieved through pacing – both verbally and non-verbally and monitoring sensory acuity in the client

· Getting into the client’s model of the world. Picking up on disempowering language which reinforces limitations, distorts reality and keeps clients stuck

· Understanding the mind’s negative default and ‘hacking’ it

· Anchoring – The process of associating an internal response (feeling of calm, confidence, power) with an external trigger, so the client can tap into calmness instantly when stressed or anxious

· Reframing – Checking out perspectives in situations and believing everyone has a positive intention and exploring that

· Parts integration – A process for resolving internal conflict. Can also be devised to use in relationship conflicts

· Swish Pattern – A fast and effective technique for changing habitual patterns of thought and behaviour

· Well-formed outcomes – A framework for setting compelling and achievable goals

This is not an exhaustive list. The aim of NLP life coaching lies in this flexible, client-centred integration of tools to boost self-awareness and authenticity in being, whilst smashing through limitations and installing new empowering strategies for living.

I’d like to leave with this quote, which came to me when writing my first book. “Own your suffering, knowing it is in that space your greatness resides.”
