Hi, I’m Lesley. How are you……… really?
It’s a question we get asked all the time, but how often do we feel like we can answer honestly? Maybe you’re used to saying “I’m fine” even when you’re not. Maybe it feels easier to stay quiet than try to explain feelings you’re not even sure how to name. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you’re in the right place.
Psychodynamic therapy is a form of talking therapy that gently explores how your past experiences and relationships may be shaping your thoughts, feelings, and patterns in the present. It’s not about blaming the past, but understanding how it might still be affecting you today.
In our first session, the focus is completely on you, your story, how you’re feeling right now, and what you hope to get out of therapy. This is a space where you can bring whatever you need, at your own pace.
One way I like to explain the therapeutic process is through the idea of an “unseen backpack” we all carry. Over the course of our lives, this backpack fills with experiences some joyful, some painful, some unresolved. Sometimes, without us even realizing, it becomes heavy. When life gets tough or something unexpected happens, that backpack can feel like it’s overflowing leading to anxiety, overwhelm, or tension in our relationships.
My role as your therapist is to help you carry that weight for a while. Together, we’ll look at what might be inside, gently, without judgment and begin to understand how it’s affecting you in the here and now. Often, we discover that present struggles are connected to past feelings, memories, or patterns.
By making space to reflect and understand, we can begin to “re-pack” that backpack in a way that feels lighter, more manageable, and uniquely your own.
You don’t have to do this alone. Whether we meet online or in my private, quiet space in Wilstead, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, welcome, and accepted just as you are, no masks, no judgment.
I work with a wide range of problems not limited to but including:
· Abuse
· Addiction
· ADHD
· Anxiety
· Autism
· Baby loss
· Bereavement
· Dementia
· Depression
· Domestic Abuse
· Low Self Esteem
· Stress
· Trauma
If any of this resonates with you, even if you’re not sure what you need yet, I’d love to hear from you. You’ve already taken a brave step just by being here. When you’re ready, I’m here too.
