“Having spent the majority of my working career within the armed forces and emergency services, I recognise the challenges that can impact the mental wellbeing of men and women in that line of work.
I qualified as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist to help my friends and colleagues and have now decided to take my passion to the outside world.
I love the idea of the Happy Body Project. I want my clients to feel relaxed and see the studios as a haven from the stresses of the outside world. I believe that is offers something special and look forward to joining the other specialists involved in the project. Thanks to Julie, Sam and the team for having this wonderful vision and for all the hard work that they have put into it.”

Qualifications:
“Life threw some difficult challenges at me in my younger years and I struggled for a long while with my mental health and with some traumatic events that had a massive impact on me. It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I went to see a Counsellor and was amazed at the difference it made. It was at this point I thought I’d like to be a Therapist.
Before becoming a Counsellor, I did lots of different jobs including working in Human Resources, Customer Services and also worked at a bank. Most recently I worked in a school, initially to do an Admin role, but it soon turned into a Pastoral Role as I naturally had the ability to get teenagers to talk to me about their issues. While I was still at the school, I began my Counselling Training and then in 2017 I qualified as a Counsellor.
I’m Mum to 2 children (aged 17 & 10) and live with my partner in Ampthill, along with our crazy French Bulldog, Frank. Before COVID-19 I used to work from a Therapy Room at home, but I have not yet returned to seeing clients at home and now work a lot via Zoom video as well as working as School Counsellor at Middle and Upper Schools.”

Visit website“I work with adults, children and young people who have experienced trauma and often exhibit signs of dissociation and use a range of therapeutic techniques to fully process these complex life events. I sometimes work with the parent/caregiver in the room which supports the work being taken from the therapy room and tools and techniques being implemented at home. I offer therapeutic parenting strategies and support within the sessions with children or as a separate intervention when appropriate.
I first went to night school to train to be a counsellor because my son (then aged 9) had been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) and I had read that there was no better person to be around someone with his diagnosis than someone with counselling skills.
As part of my course, I had to attend my own therapy sessions to work through the residue of my own past traumatic experience, which included being in a relationship where I was subjected to domestic violence, some of which was witnessed by my son.
As I processed my own experience, it started becoming more apparent to me that perhaps my own child did not have ADHD, but was actually experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociation. Over the next few years, I learned as much about this subject as I could (and am still learning!) convinced that this was a more accurate description of my child.
Knowing that PTSD and Dissociation in children was a real thing, I decided that what was needed was a therapeutic service that focused on this and filled the gap between general counselling and children being medicated, without past known trauma being fully processed. The service did not exist and so in 2018, I founded ‘The Gap (Bedfordshire) LTD’ which is now a CIC.
Alongside this, I am the founder of ‘JV Trauma Tools and training Ltd.’ which provides training to parents and professionals. I am also a motivational speaker and author of five books and workbooks that focus on symptoms of PTSD, including emotional regulation, dissociation and anxiety.”
