Integrative Counsellors

I specialise in working with victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. I also have experience in working with many trauma cases outside these issues, including people who have been victims of a crime. I’ve worked in pre-trial therapy and understand how to work in tandem with a potential or current legal case.

I also take clients who have been involved in coercive control groups such as cults or other high-pressure groups. This includes those who have been involved in extreme religious practices.

Other mental health issues I work with include depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, family issues and many other issues that fall under the mental health umbrella.

I welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as those with neurodiversity. I accept clients aged 16 and above and have experience with this age group from working in a school.

Availability:

I offer a free 20-minute phone or online consultation. I will ask you a little about what brought you to counselling to make sure I’m a suitable choice and have the availability you need. This is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for me and see if this could be a beneficial partnership.

I currently offer online sessions for £50. I have some flexibility for daytime appointments. I have dedicated Mondays for any evening online appointments. These tend to fill up quickly.

Face-to-face sessions are £65. I work evenings on Wednesdays. I have limited availability for these sessions at the moment.

About Me:

I believe that everyone could benefit from counselling at some point. We all get stuck from time to time, and having someone who has no preconceived ideas about you and offers a truly non-judgemental place to sort through your thoughts and feelings can be life-changing. As an American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I

have witnessed attitudes of seeking counselling change for the better. There seems to be less stigma around mental health in general, and it’s exciting to be a part of this.

I am an integrative counsellor who uses different methods and modalities based on the needs of the individual client. Everything I bring into sessions is underpinned by the Person-Centred approach, where the relationship between counsellor and client is of the utmost importance. This therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects. I believe the client to be the expert in their own life, and I work with the client to find tools that work for them.

My personal experience in counselling rooms as a client has probably been the most important part of my training. I believe in this process wholeheartedly. I know it can be difficult but also life-changing. I am secure in my work with clients in that I never ask them to do anything I have not done myself. I understand the weight of it and the privilege it is to be invited on your journey.

Hi, I’m Jo. I am a BACP registered integrative therapist and psychotherapist. I am passionate about helping people understand their own mental health. I believe our relationship with our mind and bodies are the very core of our being and therefore why not make this the best relationship possible in order to enjoy the experience of life?

I have a particular interest in loss and grief, which I believe touches all of our lives in myriad ways, whether it’s the loss of a favourite personal belonging, a part of our identity, a relationship, or the death of a loved one. I can support you by sitting alongside as you process your painful and often complex feelings.

I am also interested in working with issues connected with our relationship with food and our body image.

Whatever your current area of mental distress may be, I am available to help you explore and find ways to understand yourself more deeply in order for you to live more comfortably. Whether the issue for you is a short or a longer path, I will walk with you. Please get in touch for an initial hello.

Qualifications:

I trained at the Minster Centre, one of the UK’s leading training institutes in integrative counselling and psychotherapy. I hold a Master’s Degree and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling. I also have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (a Level 7 BACP Accredited qualification).

What I Offer:

I work face-to-face and online via Zoom, offering both daytime and evening appointments.

Introductory call – 15 minutes, free

Weekly sessions – 50 minutes, £65

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are offered at the same agreed time each week. Carving out a regular space for therapy each week is an important part of the process.

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and I understand that finding the right counsellor isn’t always easy. I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing. My goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel accepted, seen, and heard. Together, we will build trust and explore what makes you feel safe, regularly checking in on your journey. There’s no set limit on our sessions; we’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

As an integrative creative arts counsellor, I blend various methods, combining the arts with talking therapy. The creative process is a powerful tool for our well-being. Combining the arts with talking therapy allows us to dive deeper into our thoughts, emotions, feelings and patterns of behaviours as well as connecting our body and mind.

My experiences as an artist, teacher, and counsellor have shown me how transformative the arts can be for self-expression, overcoming challenges, and fostering connection. Navigating my own mental health challenges led me to train as a creative arts counsellor. Here I experienced firsthand the transformative value of the therapeutic relationship combined with the arts and the impact this had on my own healing.

In addition to my private practice, I co-facilitate adult groups using the arts to support physical, mental health and wellbeing. I also offer workshops. Additionally, I work with children and adolescents in their home and in alternative provisions. Working with those who have faced or still face challenging school and life experiences resulting in anxiety, depression, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), or who may have special educational needs (SEND).

Creative therapy provides a safe haven for self-expression, allowing you to share difficult thoughts and emotions. It helps release suppressed feelings, reduce stress, and foster self-awareness and is especially beneficial for processing trauma. For those who find it hard to express themselves verbally, the arts offer an additional way to explore feelings and emotions.

In my free time, I enjoy painting, walking my dogs, and being outdoors. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working overseas, living in both Europe and Asia.

Services:

Hanneke provides psychotherapeutic counselling and training. She works both face-to-face and online, with adults, teenagers (14+) and groups. She is qualified to work with a broad range of issues and offers a free initial consultation to discuss your needs.

Hanneke can provide psychotherapeutic counselling for:

· Difficult and overwhelming life events: bereavement and loss, family and relationship difficulties, pregnancy and infertility, parenthood, life transitions, illness and diagnosis, work related issues and retirement, settling and living abroad.

· Difficult thoughts and emotions: thoughts and feelings linked to anxiety, low mood, stress, burn-out and perfectionism. Or those that are harder to define; something has felt ‘off’ for some time, a general sense of dissatisfaction, confusion around your sense of self, or feeling stuck in patterns which keep repeating themselves.

Neurodiversity and SEND informed counselling can be provided for:

· Adults and teenagers whom are either diagnosed or self-identify as neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, AuDHD, Sensory Processing Differences). She also supports to those who identify with the personality trait of heightened sensitivity or HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) or SPS (Sensory Processing Sensitivity).

About Hanneke:

Having grown up in the Netherlands, Hanneke first visited England during her university years. Work experience as part of her degree developed into a job opportunity and she subsequently settled in the Bedfordshire area from 2004 onwards.

Hanneke’s background is in the education sector where she provided support and consultations for a diverse range of professionals, children, young people and their families, helping them to navigate difficult and emotional challenges often linked to anxiety, autistic spectrum disorders, neurodiversity, sensory processing differences and emotional wellbeing.

In her thirties, Hanneke sought counselling and hypnotherapy to work through unresolved issues from her past which had started forming barriers and limitations in her family, personal and work life. Experiencing the powerful impact of working with a professional that can provide a safe space to talk and be alongside us when we feel vulnerable and in need of support guided her towards her next vocation.

Hanneke’s approach to counselling was born out of the emphasis she places on developing a strong relationship and understanding of the unique perspective and experience of the individual. Hanneke places the client at the centre of her work and draws from different therapeutic modalities, adopting an accepting and non-judgmental stance.

Studies and research in the field of environmental sensitivity (Michael Pluess) and/or heightened sensitivity (Elaine Aron) are one of Hanneke’s passionate interests. Sensitivity is a personality trait (just like introversion and extraversion) affecting about 20% of the population and related awareness and understanding can prove to be an influential discovery towards increased wellbeing, self-care and acceptance of self.

Hi I’m Mandy,

First and foremost, I am a warm, friendly, ‘come-as-you-are’, imperfect, human being. Alongside this, I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor, which is a fancy way of saying I’m trained to support you in a variety of ways that allow me to be flexible in how we work together. This ensures  your sessions suit you individually and that you get the most out of them.

For example, some of the work we do together might include looking at how your past experiences may be unhelpfully affecting your present ones, and then supporting you to make the changes you’d like to see in your life.  Or, maybe the idea of sitting still for 50 minutes, feeling pressure to make more eye contact than you’re comfortable with is making you wonder if you can even come for Counselling?  No worries. We can easily make adjustments so that you feel comfortable to be fully present and get the most from your sessions. However we choose to work together and whatever it is  that brought you here, I will always meet you exactly where you are, with empathy, in a space where all the parts of who you are, are welcome.

As well as face to face sessions at the wonderful Happy Body Project, I also offer Walk & Talk sessions, using a number of pre-walked routes  across the local area, all chosen for their calm natural beauty, ease of use (no steep climbs!) and relative privacy. It is truly incredible how the natural environment always lends itself to these sessions so effectively, actively assisting in the journey of self-discovery and healing.

A Special Mention on Pet Loss & Bereavement:

I have a particular passion for supporting people struggling with Pet Loss or Bereavement. As a lifelong animal lover myself, I not only trained with The Blue Cross, but have long and varied lived experience of the uniquely special relationships we build with the animals we share our lives with. This inevitably also means that I understand first hand, the depth of pain and sense of loss we feel, as those relationships end. I care very deeply about providing a space where anyone experiencing this can be emotionally supported, and their grief met with the sensitivity and respect this time so deserves. For more information, please do visit the dedicated  page on my website or contact me with any questions at all.

I always feel it is a great privilege to be entrusted with some of the most delicate, vulnerable and often painful aspects of my clients’ lives and in order for a person to feel safe to do that, it is vital they find the right therapist for them. The best way to see if I might be someone you’d like to work with is to get in touch to arrange a free, no obligation online chat. That way you can ask any questions you may have, I can tell you a little more about how we might work together, and you can decide how you feel from there. I’ll hope to speak to you soon.

Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist

My style is warm, compassionate, and inclusive. I see therapy not as a process of “fixing” you, but as a collaborative relationship where experiences can be explored openly and without judgement.

Meaningful change is most likely to happen when therapy is grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship. This sits at the heart of my approach and is something we build together over time.

My training was integrative, meaning I draw on different therapeutic perspectives to tailor therapy to your specific needs. The approach I take to our sessions will be tailored to what you hope to gain from therapy, rather than by a prescribed agenda.

I welcome adult (18+) clients from all backgrounds and identities.

How therapy with me can help

People come to therapy for many reasons and with a wide range of concerns. You might feel stuck, overwhelmed, or sense that something isn’t quite right. Sometimes there’s an internal tug-of-war, where different parts of you want different things, leaving decisions feeling confusing or exhausting.

In therapy, we can slow things down and begin to make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we can explore patterns that may be holding you back and untangle inner conflicts that feel difficult to navigate alone.

You may come to therapy feeling uncertain about who you are or how you want to live your life. This can be a reflective space to reconnect with your values and strengthen your sense of self.

Therapy with me isn’t just about reflection and exploration. It can also be a practical, supportive space where we can try different tools or ways of working that can help you make meaningful changes in your life.

· Self-doubt and low self-esteem

· Relationship and interpersonal difficulties

Background & experience
